IAWM/SEAMUS concert Call for Works

Her Voice in Motion

An Immersive Concert at Virginia Tech’s Cube. Celebrating Women in Electroacoustic Music

Presented by IAWM & SEAMUS

March 26, 2027 | 8:00 PM
The Cube at Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, Virginia, USA

The International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM) and the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS) invite submissions for an evening of electroacoustic music to be presented at The Cube at Virginia Tech as part of the Virginia Tech New Music + Technology Festival. https://icat.vt.edu/studios/the-cube.html

The Cube is a five-story immersive performance environment featuring a high-density loudspeaker array with up to 140 audio channels, providing an extraordinary platform for spatial music and multimedia performance.

We welcome submissions from women-identifying composers, performers, and composer-performers working in electroacoustic music. Preference will be given to works that creatively engage immersive audio, explore the artistic possibilities of spatialized sound, and take advantage of the unique capabilities of The Cube.

Eligible Works

Submissions may include:

  • Fixed-media electroacoustic works
  • Audiovisual works
  • Solo works for live performer and electronics*
  • Works for composer-provided performers and electronics
  • Works performed by composer-performers
  • Interactive or computer-mediated performances (performed by the composer)

* Festival-provided performers may be available for select solo works, subject to instrumentation and performer availability.

Performance Information

  • Applicants must identify as women and non-binary composers, performers, or composer-performers working in electroacoustic music.
  • Maximum duration: 12 minutes.
  • Performance date: March 26, 2027.
  • Soundchecks will take place on the day of the concert. Composers and performers will receive approximately 30–60 minutes in The Cube to rehearse, experiment, and adapt their work to the performance environment.
  • The concert will be professionally documented through audio and video recording, as well as photography.
  • Selected applicants will be invited to participate in a webinar on preparing audio files for presentation within The Cube’s 140-channel immersive audio system. Additional information is available at: https://github.com/icatimmersive/ICAT-Documentation

    • To join or renew your IAWM membership, visit https://iawm.org/join-the-iawm/
    • To join or renew your SEAMUS membership, visit https://seamusonline.org/register/?step=register

  • Performers may submit works by any woman-identifying or non-binary electroacoustic composer.
  • Composers and performers whose selected works involve live performance or live electronics are required to attend the festival. Attendance is not required for fixed-media works, though it is strongly encouraged.
  • By submitting, applicants agree that accepted performances may be recorded, photographed, and archived by IAWM, SEAMUS, and Virginia Tech. Copyright of all submitted works remains with the composer or creator.
