Recording

Up until 2018, I had not created video projections for my work. I usually worked with others on that aspect of my performance, or used randomly generated visuals.

“Shampoo” is one of two tongue in cheek pieces that I created while preparing for NEEMFest 2018. It was performed there (Homer, NY) and then again in Ithaca and Maryland later that year. It was performed again in 2019 at Mountain Skies in NC.

The piece is different every time because the samples are triggered live. There’s not a 100% match between the video/audio. As the piece evolved, I enjoyed singing in the middle of the piece – something that the audience doesn’t expect. As a first attempt at this sort of material, I was pretty satisfied, and it turned out to have underpinnings of social commentary during the Me Too movement that were not planned (but generated great discussion).
