Short Bio
Matthew Briggs is currently a TA and doctoral candidate in Music Composition at Florida State University. Also an avid educator, he was previously an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Texas Christian University (TCU) and Music Theory Instructor at Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU). He is a graduate of Texas Christian University with a Masters of Music in Composition where he studied with Dr. Blaise Ferrandino, Dr. Till Meyn, and Dr. Martin Blessinger. Matthew has enjoyed performances of his works around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Tallahassee, and various cities around the United States. He is a member of Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI), Pi Kappa Lambda (Music Honor Society), and Delta Phi Alpha (German Honor Society). Matthew began playing piano at the age of six, and it still remains a large part of his life; since then he has also picked up guitar, trumpet, and other instruments with varying degrees of proficiency. His compositional style is constantly evolving as he matures and learns, but he has recently been making his first forays into the world of microtonality and electronic music. Some other interests include fishing, collecting old books, and language study.
