Short Bio
Flutist, composer, improviser and educator Jane Rigler has performed nationally and internationally as a soloist and in ensembles in contemporary music festivals premiering new works and compositions written especially for her. Her training from Northwestern University (B.M., 1988) and her work at the University of California, San Diego’s music program (M.A. 1991 and Ph.D. 1996) gave her the skill to interpret extremely complicated 20th C. repertoire and improvisation, as well as begin her interactive electronic music experience. Nine years performing throughout Spain gave her many diverse interactions with great improvisers throughout Europe (i.e., Agustí Fernández, Lê Quan Ninh, Peter Kowald, etc) as well as an opportunity to play hundreds of concerts and premiere many new works as well as compose her own. While in NYC she organized events, composed new interactive electronic works, improvised and collaborated with many of the best contemporary ensembles (Either/Or, Wet Ink, etc) and with leaders like Adam Rudolph, Walter Thompson, Butch Morris and Anthony Braxton. Rigler’s works range from solo acoustic pieces to multi-disciplinary interactive electronic ensemble works. In 2009-10, Jane received the Japan United States Friendship Commission Fellowship, in 2016 she was awarded a residency at Civitella Ranieri in Itay.
