Short Bio
Charles Gabriel Berry (born. 1993 Yuma, Arizona) is a composer and is pursuing his MA in Musicology at Brooklyn College. He received his B.M. in Music Composition (Summa Cum Laude) at Arizona State University where he studied under Kotoka Suzuki, Jody Rockmaker, and James DeMars. Gabe has had a deep passion for electronic music since he was a kid. He has been influenced by musicians such as Pamela Z, Brian Eno, and Aphex Twin. He likes to explore how the ear perceives musical language and bends that perception with use of different tuning systems and microtonality. He likes to create deep structures within his music, while still retaining a sense of accessibility to an audience unfamiliar with the world of electronic music. His pieces have been performed at eclectic venues, such as the Phoenix Art Museum and the Balance/Unbalance conference at Arizona State University. He has also worked as an intern for WQXR and Q2 Music where he has gained invaluable insights into sound design, radio programming, and new music.
