Call for Proposals: Chatham University Sound+ Installations

Chatham University’s Music Program and Arts, Design, & Communication Department are seeking sound and multimedia installation proposals from the SEAMUS membership for its new Susan Bergman Gurrentz ’56 Art Gallery to be exhibited during the Fall 2026 semester. The exhibitions are supported by a 2026 SEAMUS Create grant, will include opening and closing receptions to maximize visibility and community engagement, and will be documented. The duration for each exhibition, determined by the total number of feasible proposals, will range between two and six weeks. Exhibition attendance is not required for featured composers and artists, though those that are able to travel to Chatham’s campus in Pittsburgh will be invited to give a presentation about their work. Travel funding is not available for this opportunity.

Proposals must be submitted as a single anonymous PDF file that includes the installation’s title and describes the installation as thoroughly as possible, including any pertinent technical details and space requirements. It should be noted if an installation can be configured in different ways (for example more or fewer audio channels). Any identifying marks that negate blind peer review will disqualify the submission. While not required, please include a link to an audio or video sample if available. Use this Google form for submission (anonymous PDF proposals will be separated from submitted contact and biographical information).

SEAMUS membership is required to submit. If you are not a SEAMUS member, or if you have not renewed your membership, please go to https://seamusonline.org/ to join or renew. Please direct any questions regarding your submission or the submission process to Michael Boyd at [email protected].

Submissions will be evaluated for aesthetic interest and technical feasibility by a multidisciplinary committee of Chatham University faculty and students. Proposers may be contacted to discuss feasibility and configuration issues. The submission deadline is May 17 at 11:59PM ET. Notifications will be sent in early June.
